Open Source, Phones

05.09.2020 (Amadeus) -

It is not only since yesterday that people have been looking for alternatives to the "Big Tech" offerings from Cupertino and Mountain View - especially when it comes to phones.

Companies like Pine64 and Purism design their products based around Open Source technologies. Customers can now order or at least pre-order models like the Pinephone or Librem 5.

The Linux based iOS/Android alternatives are still in an early stage of development. At the moment, customers have to cope with operating system glitches and "inferior" hardware.

Nevertheless, Linux could grow into an important foundation for Open Source alternatives in the smartphone market in the future.
